About New Public Toilet Facilities In Gillingham

What Is Being Proposed?

NDDC will replace the old run down Public Toilet block in the High Street with a modern hygienic vandal resistant unit.


Who will run it?

Gillingham Town Council will lease the new unit from NDDC for 7 years at a peppercorn rent and take responsibility for operating and maintaining it. Typically this will involve a contractor undertaking a daily inspection and restocking of consumables and frequent deep cleaning.


What are the benefits to the Community?

The new unit will be available 24 hours a day to all residents of Gillinghham Town and the surrounding Parishes.

It is a proven vandal resistant design.


What will this cost the Town Council to Provide?

The projected yearly costs are based on the report from the Forensic Accountant engaged by the Town Council to investigate and validate the financial information provided by NDDC.

What will this Cost the Residents?

The Public Toilet is provided primarily for the benefit of residents of Gillingham Town and the surrounding Parishes. A fair share of the cost of ensuring the availability of this facility, based on the total number of Band D Equivalents in this wider community, would be:

£ 8670 divided by 7417.7

£ 1.17 per Band D Household per year


There will be a small pay as you go charge towards the maintenance costs, which will vary in proportion to usage, so non- residents who use this facility will also share the cost.
